INDUSTRY NEWS & OPPORTUNITIES - THE NOOSA EDITION 29 Jan
Queensland events funding closing soon
Regional event organisers are invited to apply for funding support from Tourism and Events Queensland through the latest round of the Queensland Destination Events Program (QDEP). The program aims at leveraging the link between events and the destinations in which they are staged.
Grants of $10,000 to $25,000 are available to help with marketing costs, strategic plan development, engagement of short-term specialised personnel and hire of temporary infrastructure. The current round of funding closes on Wednesday, 5 February, for events being staged between September 2020 and September 2021.
Australia Day honours
Congratulations from us all to Peter Gash (pictured above), the Managing Director of Tourism Noosa member Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort, and owner/chief pilot of sister company Seair Pacific, who was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the General Division in the annual Australia Day Honours List for his service to eco-tourism and to aviation.
And congratulations to former Noosa Mayor Bob Abbot who also received an OAM - for service to local government, and to the communities of Noosa and the Sunshine Coast.
In the spirit of collaboration with our industry partners, CEO Melanie Anderson has accepted an invitation from the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) to become a mentor in their Young Professionals Mentoring Program. Tourism Noosa’s Isa Grube was one of the young professionals to benefit from the expertise of last year’s mentors, and Mel will now share her extensive knowledge of the industry with this year’s intake.
TN's Digital Marketing Coordinator Phoebe Thomas has been invited to join the South Queensland YATEC (Youth Australian Tourism Export Council) Committee - a network of young professionals in the tourism industry. This is a great opportunity for Phoebe who is Noosa's and the Sunshine Coast's first representative on this committee. She will be responsible for organising YATEC events on the Sunshine Coast and developing networking for young people in the tourism industry.
