Ten Years of Tall Trees in Cooran – new online exhibition
See artworks by local artists like you've never seen in a unique, online gallery experience to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Tall Trees Exhibition.
In 2010 a small group of creatively minded friends came together to exhibit their art work in Cooran. They called their exhibition event Tall Trees and invited the entire town. Ten years later the Tall Trees annual exhibition is attended by hundreds of Sunshine Coast locals.
More than 130 artists of many different kinds are now part of the Tall Trees weekend exhibition either as exhibitors or event helpers. Many Cooran businesses participate, some turning over their premises to act as temporary galleries up and down King Street.
In 2020 Tall Trees faced the challenge faced by everyone in the arts and entertainment industries: how can we continue to engage the community with our work in the time of COVID-19 and government social isolation policies?
Local company Media PR / Virtual TV who are leaders in immersive AR and VR interactive technology found the solution with a 360 degree online exhibition that may well add a new element in future years even after we are able to congregate again.
The interactive program is available on any device (phone, tablet, PC) and takes you into a 360 augmented reality. Seven virtual galleries house hundreds of artworks from the entire 2020 Tall Trees Art Exhibition. The names of the galleries link back to locations in King Street, Cooran where the exhibition is usually hosted.
Viewers enter the galleries and move through the exhibits. You can turn, look up and down and around and zoom in to see individual artworks in high definition. Original music is playing in each gallery, provided and performed by local musicians. When you see a work that interests you, tap or click on the image and zoom in to see the finest details, be they brush strokes, pixels, stitches or wood-turning marks. Click or tap again to see the purchase price, media and dimensions and read the artist’s statement.
The online exhibition received a grant from Pomona Branch of Bendigo Bank.
See the exhibition at talltreesart360.com.au until 7 September, and check out the public facebook group, Tall Trees Art Exhibition.
